Capital One dinged my credit score by 47 points

Postby gwilly » Sat Aug 17, 2013 2:57 pm

I am very diligent with paying my bills on time and finally got my credit score in the 740 range and because I was 4 days late paying a Capital one card they reported me to the credit bureau resulting in a 47 point drop in my score that I struggled to maintain.

I notified capital one a they said they would write a letter on my behalf because I was not 30 days late after all.

What other recourse do I have proactively that I can take. I am planning on zero-ing out that card.

Suggestion/thoughts/advise are welcome. Thank you in advance.

Dispute it with the credit bureaus. If that does no good, then contact the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau consumerfinance.gov and file a complaint there.

I found personally that filiing a complaint about my illegally re-aged account with the FTC did absolutely nothing at all, but filing a complaint with the CFPB got it removed within a month to 6 weeks.
