Is it better to pay for gas with cash or credit card?

I never understood why Gas Stations (especially the big names) don't have Swipe Fee arrangements like that of McD, Walmart, Target etc...Where as they do such high volume of transactions they negotiate lower swipe fees from the Payment Networks (V/MC/DISC/AMEX)... I heard McD's because of such high volume only pays like 1-2 cents per transaction in swipe fees across all the payment networks.

I've been thinking about the cash or credit thing as here in NYC, it can be a 10 to 15 cent per gallon difference. Its extra annoying because debit is hit with the same ridiculous fee. I generally try to avoid those stations but always use the card since I don't carry cash most of the time.
