Have you all run across this. THe Chase Sapphire card. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I just saw a commercial on TV last night for it. I remember reading about it on Credit Card Forum previously too.

To be honest I just don't want to touch anything with Chase's name on it. I've not had the best experience with their customer service. Another major problem I had with them when I used their Southwest card was purchases would be flagged for manual phone authorization all the time. It wasn't the big purchases either. I could be spending $10 at the grocery store and it wouldn't process the transaction, saying that phone authorization is necessary and that would usually end up taking 20 mins to do. This probably happened with 5 to 7% of my purchases even though they were in my area. Meanwhile when I used it in foreign countries it never happened, go figure.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed and linked to. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

but with Citi. I've had nothing but good experiences with Chase. But a few years ago Citi was flagging many of my transactions. It was a new account, but still.

I would be reluctant to do biz with a co. that I've had that experience with. But I should point out that Chase seems to be running their cust service for Sapphire entirely out of the U.S., Ohio, to be exact. When you call they say they're in Ohio, or at least they were doing that, the same way Discover reps say they're in Iowa, Idaho or wherever. Lots of bowing and scraping from the Chase Sapphire folks. But still the rewards are weak, and I'm using my Fidelity Visa for the 2% rebate, which is the best deal I've been able to find.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

I just responded to another thread about my dissatisfaction with Chase credit cards. The customer service on my card has always been in India. If they would switch all their call centers to places like Ohio and Iowa that would give me strong incentive to go back to using them. I like supporting American jobs not to mention it makes dealing with customer service a thousand times easier.

Discover has their main call centers in New York state. I appreciate that it's good to support the country and keep the jobs where they belong.
