New app, before or after Amex CLI?

Postby Paavo » Sat Jul 20, 2013 1:58 am

Hello folks!

First of all, thanks a lot for this forum for all the great pieces of information I've had a chance to get. Moving in from another country, still just a few months back I didn't have a clue about the concept of credit score. Now I know more than any of my colleagues.

Now I'm planning to get my next card, BankAmericard Privileges Cash Rewards. Obviously, I would like to have a CL as high as possible. Currently I have HSBC Premier MC $10k 1y10mths and Costco AmEx $10k 1.5mths. The question is: should go for AmEx CLI and wait until it's reported before I apply, or should I apply right away?

My FICO was 758 before getting the AmEx, a bit less now I believe. 3 HP, always PIF, util about 5%, no other debt, no baddies, income $170k.

Thanks Robrus1!
I'll wait until the AmEx ages 61+ days. Then walk in the bank and apply for BoA card, and subsequently hit the AmEx LUV button for $25k the same day.
Any chance AmEx would later pull back the CLI if they see a new CC in their next SP?

Follow up:
1. AmEx CLI 10k -> 25k approved.
2. BoA initially approved for 5.5k, and 10k after recon.

I did! 61 days exactly.
Actually there was a bit of a hassle here. On my TU report the account is opened May 28, and I hit the LUV button exactly at 61days -> declined because the account had not been open more than 60 days. Then called AmEx to verify, and the helpful customer service informed that the opening date was May 29. Hit the button again the day after, and BANG 25k.
