My girlfriend is trying to build up her credit score (she has a couple negative things from awhile back, charge-off, collection, but also 6 years of pmts on mortgage with 1 <30 late in that time, a car loan with no late pmts and paid off, and a revolving line that she had for a couple years).
She only has a 570 credit score though. She is looking into getting a new car in March. I'm hoping with a large enough down payment, she will be able to get a loan even with the poor score (planning a $10,000 down pmt on a 15,000 car or so).
My question is, what cards should she apply for to build her credit? Would be nice to get her at least over 600 by March. She was denied for a US Bank Student Visa a couple weeks ago, so she has 1 hard pull. I'm thinking of having her apply for a secured card, but was also considering Target and Amazon (I read on Credit Karma that some people do get approved with a credit score of 550-600).
Last question, I've read about people with great credit applying for multiple cards in 1 day so the creditors don't see the other hits. Would you recommend this in her case since she won't be applying for a car loan for 7-8 months anyways. If she could get a secured card and a store card it would be much better for the utilization ratio since the secured will only be $300.
