Chances of getting a limit increase within a few months?

Postby campbr1 » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:18 pm

I recently opened up two Amex Credit Cards- Blue Cash Preferred 10K and Hilton Honors Surplus 2K about a three weeks after opening the BCP. I have set them up on autopay and pay the BIF.

I know I need to wait some time before requesting a CLI; but my question is, on the Hilton w/2K limit, i'm charging between 1K-1.5K. Will that hurt my debt to credit ratio even though I pay it in full? Moreover, will that hurt my chances of getting a CLI in a few months?

Just make payments before the statement date. Amex will let you pay it literally as much as you want.

Also when you open a new card with them you can go for a 3X CLI after 60 days (on the 61st). And every 6 months after that you can go for another, but only on one card. You can also move your credit lines around between cards.

High utilization has a negative impact. If you want lower utilization reported then pay before the statement cuts. It probably doesn't matter too much though, considering that it's not your only card. Calculate your overall utilization and figure out where you want to be.
