ExxonMobil Smart Card Worth Keeping?

Postby Michael » Sun Jul 07, 2013 7:42 am

I have an ExxonMobil 'Smart' card which gives 6 cents per gallon, only if I charge 45 gallons monthly. The limit is $1200.

I know this card is inferior for rewards, but I have had it since 2008.

I have five bank cards which I use for rewards, but oddly, the ExxonMobil is my fourth oldest card ( behind AMEX BCP 2001, Chase Freedom 2002, Discover 2005).

Is it worth throwing a tank on the ExxonMobil card every once in a while, to keep it in the mix, or should I let it go?

Since you have several older cards that give better rewards, close it, you won't make use of it and you don't need it.

Some would say you should leave it open as it has no annual fee, but I wouldn't just due to the risk of fraud honestly and the potential liability of that. You might as well close it and be done with it.

Your call to make. I ditched my Shell card as I didn't find it worthwhile. 6 cents/gallon would not have swayed me to keep it. You need to decide based on your preferences and priorities. Worth is highly subjective no matter what the topic.
