Canceling Capital One

Postby pac4toon » Thu Jul 04, 2013 3:14 am

Hello. I've been thinking about canceling my Cap1 card. My CL is $1250 (I tried the CLI button), and this is my sock drawer card (with an AF OF $39) The only reason why I haven't canceled it is because this is my oldest card.

What say you?
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

Is CO the only card you have? If yes, do not cancel until you get new cards.
How much newer is your second oldest card?
How many other cards do you have?

Basically, yes you should cancel, but the real question is whether you should get other cards before cancelling.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Dump it. Crap One is more trouble than they're worth. There are much better free cards out there..
AMEX PRG~1/14--backdated to 2012
AMEX BCE~6/13--backdated to 2012
Chase Freedom~5/13
Discover IT ~12/12

Agreed. Just get a couple of new cards before you dump it. And do it before the annual fee hits so you save the cost of that.

Got it. Dumping Cap One before the annual fee is due. I think my second oldest card is just a few months after Cap1.- I'll call the number in the back of my cards to find out. Thanks.

Aloha Oe Cap1 Aloha Oe.

Thanks! My interest in Hawaii actually started with learning to play ukulele, which I've been doing for a few weeks now, and as part of that you learn a bit about the culture, language and history of Hawaii. I'd always of course loved the fact it's a tropical paradise, but I was frankly horrified to learn the history of US aggression and imperialism and how they basically forced "regime change" of a peaceful monarchy so that our businessmen could profit from the island. Mind you these rulers never threatened anyone, had no weapons of mass destruction and didn't fly planes into buildings (though from what I read they were a bit ineffective but that's not a crime) but we still sent in the marines to "liberate" them anyway. If other countries did what we did in Hawaii, we'd be screaming how horrible they are, but if we do it, that's ok. It's kind of eye-opening when you read this stuff and see what your government is REALLY like (hint: the exact same as the rest of them).

Anyway, it looks like you want to go there?
