Should I wait 'til I get income?

Postby greyhoodies » Fri Jun 28, 2013 10:22 pm

I've only had my Wells Fargo card since 18, now 25, with a $17,000 limit. I'd like to get another card, but I'm not sure which card, if any, I should get. Credit scores are: EX 722; EQ 682; TU 680. I have gotten some pre-selected offers, but I've never applied for them. I'm studying for the bar and living with my parent, so I don't have any income at the moment.

Should I just wait until I have income or is there anything that I can get?

I prefer travel rewards or cash back, but I'm open to anything.

I may be incorrect, but I think you may have some difficulty obtaining a card with no income now, and in the event you get a card, the limits may be lower due to your lack of income. Since it seems your credit is in good order and you have what appears to be quite a lot of limit, it could be in your interest to wait until you have post Bar Exam income.

Member or djrez, you guys have any thoughts here?

Why am I getting called out?

My opinion? Get off the web and get back to studying. Your current card is plenty. Once you pass the bar and get a job, you can worry about getting a new card.

Because you are an esteemed member of the community here.

I agree with djrez4 though, why bother, a 17k limit is a LOT more than anything I had up to recently, and with no income at the moment it will be hard to get other cards approaching this level. (And with no income what's the point anyway).

As he said, once you are a lawyer you can easily get some great cards at that time, I can't see the hurry to do anything now except to have something but I'm afraid you won't get what you really want if you do anything this soon.
