I called to close the cards, the guy closes the Platinum, then apparently looked at the spend on the Signature (quite a bit, which the analyst mentioned) and gets an analyst on the line for that one. She was a nice lady from Idaho, and she did her best to convince me to leave the Signature open. She gave me a 1.25 % base from the 1% now (it's 3% on gas and groceries, which really isn't bad) AND said she would move the Platinum card entire line over to the Signature.

I was like well in that case, yeah keep it open! Otherwise I'm closing a card with an over 20k limit effectively. And even I'm not that nuts.

So that's where that stands. To be honest a 20k plus limit kind of scares me but on the other hand, maybe it gives a little impetus to the others to at least keep me in mind for increases down the road too....

I'm still not sure why it had to get to that point. I mean it's like your employer won't give you a raise and it's been years of free overtime and you are thinking ok if I ever want to make any more money I get it, and you put yourself out there and get an offer for a lot more, better opportunity, then give your boss the news and suddenly whoa wait we can beat that. Well then why did you make me go through that to begin with? You could have given me less and kept me but what do I know. That's all I don't "get" about it. Seems to be human nature.

But honeslty I do not even come close to needing/justifying a card with over a 20k limit. I'm just not a high roller to THAT extent. I'll keep it, but I honestly will never come close to using it. And once the economy tanks I imagine it will be slashed to reduce their exposure so it's not like it will be permanent anyway (maybe I should say when it tanks worse than it's been tanking for years now). I know that realistically too. So, not gonna run off and celebrate, just take it for what it is, and leave it at that!
