I recently applied online for my first card (the Citi Forward for College Students) and waited about a week for answer to my application before getting a letter in the mail asking for me to verify my SSN with a SSA-89 form and a copy of my SS card.
I see that for Citi - and this card in particular - that the form SSA-89 is pretty standard. However, my parents stated that they've never had a card ask for a copy of their SS cards and advised against it. I understand Citi wanting to verify considering I have little to no credit history (one student loan) but I'm still unsure about sending in a copy.
So I guess I'm looking for a second opinion or any info on this. Is this standard now? Should I really be that worried about sending it in? Are there other options?
