What do you think is the best for airlines?

Postby CreditorPredator » Sat Jun 22, 2013 10:19 pm

I currently have the CSP and it's a pretty good airlines card. I've also noticed the Amexes have good rewards with their platinum card and also their Delta rewards line of cards. There's also the United and Southwest cards with Chase Visa.

I used to fly Delta for business all the time but haven't been doing so this year. If I still was I definitely would have gotten a Delta Amex card by now, but maybe not the $450/year one.

What is your favorite airline card?

I only really fly Delta so it wasn't an issue. I grabbed the Gold one for the signup bonus, free bags and priority boarding. Travel 2 round trips and you justify the card alone just for the bags. I upgraded to the Platinum for after I was offered a certain number of MQM miles but, it's not worth the extra $50 a year unless you really need the free companion ticket. Having the regular Amex Platinum, I don't see a need for the Reserve one.

If you fly other airlines, I don't know what cards are better than others with those. There was a pretty good offer for the British Airways card a while back and you could use those to book on American.

Although not the right card for me as a Hawaii resident, I like the United Club card. Houston is a UA hub though so for you it may work out great. Other than a high AF or $395 you get some great perks.

-No foreign trans fees
-United Club access
-Free checked bags
-1.5 miles for $1 spent

If the AF is more than you are looking for the MP Explorer offers more limited versions of the same perks for $95/yr.
Sapphire Reserve: travel & dining (almost everything until I meet my initial spend)
Blue Cash Preferred: groceries & gas
Freedom: 5% cats
Double Cash: everything else

Best is going to depend on needs and preferences just as it does on any topic. I'm also in Houston which is a United hub so the UMPE is very useful to me. YMMV, of course.

For general travel, Amex Plat and Chase SP.

As far as branded cards, it depends on what hub you live in. I live in Dallas, an American hub, so the Citi AAdvantage card would be best for me..

AMEX BCE~6/13--backdated to 2012
Chase Freedom~5/13
