See, I'd be inclined to call in and ask for one, but I've heard horror stories of them claiming it would only be a SP and it turns out to be a HP.

I currently carry:
Amex BCP
Chase Freedom
Chase Ink Plus
Chase SP
Target

Sock drawer:
Discover It
Citi TYP
Citi Simplicity
BoA BBR

Discover pretty much gonna stay that way the rest of the year, unless they bring out something good 4th quarter. Both Citi cards only good for BT offers, unless they offer me promos, and BoA is pretty self explanatory.

Strongly tempted to thin the herd. The Amex cards and CSP are priority as is FNBO, the FIA card is very nice but doesn't get a lot of use as you might expect it would. I honestly have too many cards, will be looking to thin the herd possibly in the near future.

That would suck if you lose your wallet. You would have to call each creditor to cancel each card. You would then be left without credit and would have to rely on your debit card until you receive your new cards. By "thin the herd" you mean cancel cards or sock drawer?

AmEx Gold, AmEx BCP, and Chase SP are currently in my wallet. In July Chase Freedom gets his chance to come out and play with 5% on gas.

If I lose my wallet I lose the debit card too - that's in there also. So I'd best not lose my wallet.

I have it set up on CreditSecure with all my cards I'd just call them and they would handle things (I have their number in my IPhone for convenience).

I mean cancel. It's too many for me to manage. Maybe some people can manage 20 or more cards, I start to struggle with 8. I find I have nightmares about trying to make sure I use each one once a month BUT make sure I pay the balance before the statement date so only one card reports a small balance. It's a PITA to me. The only hesitation I've had so far is I want the Amexs to report before I do anything and also keeping them is leverage for CLIs with Chase as I can say look I have 3 cards now with limits of 10k or greater, but I'm wanting to move that business to Chase and that would be easier for me to do if you could up my limit a bit closer to what other banks have given me. (Which is true, I'd prefer to give them more business).

Otherwise, yeah, I want to close a few of these it's just too much to deal with. I hate to actually do it, because once you close you never know where you stand with these guys, but managing that is just more hassle than I want in life, and I'd prefer to concentrate on Amex and Chase and FNBO. 4 cards is as much as I need or want. I just don't want to deal with more than that.

I know, you will argue well put them in the sock drawer and take them out every few months and fill your tank or buy a pack of gum. Yeah I could, but it's always a risk of fraud since I'd have to check for charges on them, plus the bank could give that money to someone else who is profitable for them, which I'm not going to be.

I just personally prefer to close rather than drag it out forever. But I've hesitated to actually close these, it will happen at some point though.

Currently - CSP, Freedom, Platinum and Business Rewards Gold.

When I finish the bonus spend on the Platinum (another $30 as of today), I swap it out for the Ink Bold. That will leave me with:

UR points -
- CSP for 3Q and 4Q dining and non-airline travel
- Freedom for 2Q dining and 3Q gas at standalone stations
- Ink for gift cards at office supply stores

MR Points -
- BRG for airline purchases, Costco gas, and any shipping, plus anything outside of the above with an OPEN merchant.

I may toss the SPG back in there, but it's such a slow earner that I don't think I'll see much value using it for non-category spending.

Also, right before the fee is due on the BRG, I'll try to get the 25k bonus for upgrading to the Business Platinum and I'll downgrade the personal Platinum to a PRG. The Bold will also get downgraded to an Ink Classic at some point. No reason to pay the fee on it and on the CSP.

That leaves the following in the sock drawer permanently:
- Barclays US Airways MC
- US Bank REI Visa (although it may sneak out for REI purchases)
- Costco Amex (technically not in the drawer because it serves as the membership card)
- HHonors Amex
- Discover IT
- Chase Mileage Plus Explorer
- Citi HHonors Signature
- Citi HHonors Reserve (may keep for permanent Hilton Gold status - Free breakfast and internet is worth about $50 a day, or $300 next year on one trip alone)
- Sapphire Preferred - Freedom - Ink - Platinum - Everyday Preferred -

I carry my CSP and Freedom, but when Chase gets rid of my 10+10 program, I will only carry the Freedom during quarters where its bonuses are useful. My Penfed Platinum Cash stays in hidden in my car. I bring my BCE when I go to Costco. Everything stays at home.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred
