Has anyone done this

Postby MemberSince99 » Sat May 25, 2013 6:23 pm

I was on FICO and they were talking about a "shopping cart trick" and I was thinking what is that.

Googled it and I guess at certain online stores they do a SP on your address and "pre-approve" you for credit.

Some of them go there and put stuff in the cart and go to check out apparently just to try to get "pre-approved" that way.

I read that same post over there and was wondering if it worked. A lot of people said it worked for some online stores like abercromie and finch and a lot of clothing stores and some others

It sounds like it works, if you qualify you get a card that way with only a SP. Not bad, but of course it will be a low limit store card. I don't want to drop my AAoA but it's hard to complain about a SP for a card.

Hmmm I tried it on Express and Victoria Secret and didn't work for me (I wouldn't have accepted it even if it did) but I did read if your "Opted out" off pre approvals then it won't work, and my LifeLock opted me out of preapprovals. :(

That's probably why. I'm not opted out. But I wouldn't use VS and I just don't want any new cards that aren't long term keepers added now, for AAoA if no other reason.

If I was just starting my journey, I'd be all over that.

I believe they are offered by GE, which is about the best company out there for auto CLIs. My Paypal MC doubled the limit in 4 months (to 5800) with no hard pull. I have read they can increase your limit every 4 months. Hard to find many others that do that.

Whoa! I need to get on the GE train! Wow that's some awesome auto clis they give you!

Yeah If I were just starting out I would be all over this! Getting a credit card with a SP is insane.

I did some pretty heavy use to get that. I would use it heavily and pay as soon as the charges posted. They obviously took note and it went from 3k to 5.8k in 4 months with no hard pull, auto. They are one of the best out there for growing your credit, but only if you do it this way. If you carry a balance you are better off with Discover. GE doesn't seem to like people who are maxxed out for months on end and I read on FICO those folks were complaining they got no CLIs. So if you use heavily or even moderately and PIF, they can be very generous in my experience.

Do you still have that card or did you axe it out?
