How do you recon a denial?

Postby credit_card_fonz » Mon May 20, 2013 11:53 am

For those of you who have had to recon, what do you say when you call in. I've never tried to recon before and have no idea what I would say if I did.

This is just an example, but I've heard Barclay is easy to recon so we'll start there. Something I was reading about credit scores is the problem with people not knowing their real scores or what the lender sees. For example, I check Credit Karma and they show me at a 660, okay not great but should be enough to get me a Barclay card, right? Well, they send me a rejection letter saying my score is 612 and they are unable to open a card for me at this time, how would I recon that? Let's say I've had a year with First Progress - I've used the card a little and always paid on time showing activity every month. Like everyone, we want better cards, how would you try to convince them after a year of good payment history you are ready to move on?

Basically what you already said. That you've had a year with First Progress and you've used it and always paid on time. That you are looking to move on with a better lender and you're hoping Barclays can be one that you build a relationship with for the long term.
If they still don't bite and say they can't do anything for you thank them for their time, be nice, and look at other options.
Always always always be nice.
