Cell phone protection, paying bill with CC

Postby credit_card_fonz » Tue May 14, 2013 9:26 pm

My mom got a letter from Wells Fargo and they said if she paid her cell phone bill with her credit card they would replace her phone with a $25 deductible in the event of accidental damage or theft.

Would something like this cover any phone? Prepaid included? My mom just has a basic flip phone that's going on 6 years old. She's concerned because it's an Alltel branded phone in an area that was swallowed up by Verizon. If her phone were to become damaged would Wells Fargo really replace it with a new Verizon branded phone for the $25 deductible?

My mom is 84 and I'm not sure we can teach her how to pay her cell phone with her credit card, she's mailed them a check every month since 1994! FYI Wells Fargo confused her by sending convenience checks in her credit card statement and she thought she was supposed to use those to pay her bill to Wells Fargo instead of using her checking account.

My really big question, if I paid her phone bill with my credit card, would her phone still be covered?

I've been paying most of my bills with my credit card... including my cellphone monthly bill.

Makes for accounting really easy.
