Have good credit but my credit card application rejected?

Postby stargazer » Wed May 08, 2013 11:23 am

Hi,

I applied for a Chase credit card and was denied (though I was told in the denial that I had 648 as my credit, which I understand to be decent).

I need a credit card because I am starting new job and moving, and need some money to cover moving costs and first month's rent.

What other cards should I apply for if I am rejected from a Chase card?

To be honest, Chase typically approves you (from what I have seen and in my experience). If you are 670+, so you probably are a little bit under the cutoff, and it isn't exactly a good score (Chase I think wants higher scores). What does your profile look like, Income, AAOA, Inquiries? Do you travel or want Cash back or spend a lot of money on certain things?

I agree. 648 is not a good score. Since you have a denial you should get a free copy of all your credit reports. Check for accuracy first of all and dispute any errors. If everything is correct then there is very little you can do besides cleaning up your act and waiting.

Stargazer, call the Chase backdoor number and ask for a recon. You've already receive the hard pull, it won't hurt to ask them to reconsider.
FICO Scores:
EQ 704
TU 789
EX 781 (via Amex on 6/11/13)
