Also I was thinking CSP to make the Freedom points more beneficial. By "1" inquiry I meant the last one to fall off this year. I have 4 in total, on Transunion at least. 1 will be off next month, 2 are over a year old, and that last one is 5 months old. So I guess for scoring purposes only that last one really matters?

I carry both the Freedom and the IT. At the time of purchase, the card that has the most rewards is selected. As a frequent shopper of Sam's Club (who does not accept Visa credit), I then will use my Discover Card which offers 1% and that is better than 0%. :)

So I applied last night for the Freedom and the CSP and got the "needs further review" screen. I called in right now to have the rep check on that and he said that I was denied due to a large number of inquires on my report but then he said they look mostly likely from a car loan. He then asked me if there was a reason I applied for 2 cards at the same time. I gave him the story on how Id like to move alot of my spending over to Chase and how I like the Freedoms rotating categories and the CSP travel benefits etc etc.. He said let him try to go back and see what they can do on the Freedom card to get me approved. He came back a few minutes later and said he was able to approve me for 3k! Not as much as my Forward but I"ll gladly take it! Why do you guys think he offered to recon the Freedom and not the CSP? Was the decision solely through him and he just didnt want to give me both cards and I might have more luck with another rep, or did he just know the system wasnt going to approve me for it? For the hell of it should I call back later and still try to recon the CSP or let that one go? lol

Papa- I think you should just let it go for right now, and let the inquires age a little bit as well as your account getting some age as well and then apply. I think they were just not comfortable in giving both right now, as well as the Freedom is easier to obtain then the CSP. That could be a theory..lol. You could try again, but I don't think it will change anything to be honest.

Well I figured I might as well recon, I already took the hardpull. I spoke to a nice guy who asked me a couple questions, put me on hold, came back asked me a few more questions, and then bam! Approved for 5K!

paparoach429 wrote:So I guess I was under the wrong assumption about Discover. I thought you can pick which categories you wanted the 5% in (I must be thinking of a different card). Gas station categories start in July for both the Freedom and the Discover so I guess I dont need to apply for both.

You were thinking of USBank Cash+, most likely.
Chase Freedom ($2.5K, 10/2009)
Discover it ($6K; 03/2011)
Amex BCE ($19.5K; 02/2013 - 2011 BD)

Congrats. So did you get both?

CSP is a little more "prestigious" than Freedom, so I think that's why you were only offered Freedom the first time.

But ya see what I meant about multiple apps with the same issuer right?

Congrats! Supposedly from the press releases and white papers, the CSP was designed for the "top 5% of earners" in the country.
