I decided I needed another card (Yea I know I have a lot >_>), and sort of wanted either an IT card or a Cap1 cash rewards card. Long story short I got declined for both.. I applied for a Sapphire card just for fun since Chase has been awesome to me and I got approved for $5,000... What the heck?!?! I'm shocked

The reason was mostly credit inquiries for Discover. I told the analyst how am I supposed to build credit without applying? He agreed, but also dinged me for it. I've had a Discover card since November '11 and have never missed a payment and always try to pay most of it every month. Cap1 gave me no reason and basically bs'd me. The girl told me I was preapproved for the card, or I wouldn't have applied. I always PIFed my cap1 card considering the line is a paltry $500 and I've had it since April '11. Chase has been nothing short of amazing for me. With my move cross country coming up they've been very good to me. I also tried increasing my limit with Discover and they wanted to pull two inquiries in one day and I thought that was not right, so I didn't even bother trying.

Cap One is a lot harder to get than people think it is. For being the mediocre never grow with you company they are, they are sensitive to inquiries is what I've seen. After all they wouldn't want you to have a bunch of cards and default on their 300 limit card, that's almost not even worth the trouble to sue you for.

Not sure what bureau Discover pulled. I have a decent credit line with them, but they've been very inflexible with a second card. Membersince99 you couldn't be more right. Cap1 is one of the worst, most conservative lenders out there and they have such ridiculously high standards to give you a crappy credit line. My buddy suggested Cap1 even though I absolutely hate them. You would figure with them being such a crap bank that they would have lower standards than Chase or Discover or BOA. I even told the Cap1 rep that I have a freedom, more and BOA cash rewards card and that not being accepted by Cap1 is embarrassing.

If you really want the It, you can always PC from your More card. Unless you want all the intro goodies.
