us bank cash+ be aware hard pull

Postby craigm1 » Thu Apr 11, 2013 11:46 am

I called U.s. Bank i have a cash + card and inquired about getting a credit line increase, I told the rep I wanted to go from 13k to 15k and if it would require a hard pull I didn't need the increase that badly, I must have said 5 times this will not require a hard pull she said no. 2 days later my credit monitoring service says they did a hard pull, I call us bank and complain and then I tell them my story and I said are your lines recorded, they said yes put me on hold for 5 minutes and said we need to have a supervisor look into this and will call you back in 24-48 hours. my question what should I ask of them when they call back, it will be clear and cut when that supervisor listens to the call they screwed up big time.

Thanks for the data point. I'm almost to the point that I'm going to wait for auto clis. I'm not going to waste inquiries on clis anymore. I want to wait for app sprees to use my inquiries.

US Bank doesn't hard pull if the amount you ask for is less than $1500 and if you use the online form. However the sucky thing is that I don't think you can use it for any Signature card, including the Cash+. I've read this on other sites and can confirm it with a regular Visa I have with them. Not sure if calling and asking for less than $1500 for a Signature card has the same result though. Which bureau did they pull?

transunion, a rep is calling me back to see if what I said is true on the call playing the recording and if so they said they will get the hard pull deleted.

FB I'm with you. I haven't yet asked for a CLI nor do I plan to. I have MORE than sufficient credit for my needs at this time, so it's not like I NEED one (though I would like to get all major cards to at least 5k that means you Discover) and I agree, it's just not worth a hard pull for a couple of k you likely won't use anyway. An exception would be if a person has toy limits, but once you get to a certain point, I agree it really doesn't make sense to take a hard pull.

resolution

Spoke with Us Bank last week and they were going to listen to my phone call that was recorded with the rep to see if they were in fault, I asked since they had already pulled my credit hard pull would they raise my limit from 15k they just raised me 2k from 13k to 20k and they said they would get back to me.

Today I get a phone call they were able to approve my limit to 20k. they did a hard pull on my credit and my wife's. At the conclusion of the phone call I asked if they had listened to the phone call with the original rep and they said they did. I have 2 options leave the limit at 20k and leave the hard pulls, or go back to 15k from 13k and have the hard pulls removed. I said why did they need to lower the limit if they had already viewed my credit report and she said I can't have it both ways. looks like they were raising me to 20k to look the other way on the bogus hard pull, a bribe. I told them to just put me back to 15k and remove the hard pulls.

You know, this needs to be a lesson to all of us to simply not believe what the CSR says and always figure it's going to be a hard, and be willing to take a hard if you want a CLI. And I'm NOT saying they are all liars, they may not know and just give you the easy answer (for them to say). But I've read time and time again how the CSR says no hard and it's a hard. You just cannot believe that is what I'm seeing.
Sorry you basically ended up with nothing out of that, except an education in the world of credit.

I got burned by BofA regarding a hard pull. I assume it's a hard pull unless I am doing something online that I can have a screenshot of.

I don't know if everyone already knew this or not, but I went into a branch today to talk to someone about this card and found out there's a minimum $30K income requirement. I was bummed, because as a student working part time I don't make that much. But I thought I'd share what I learned in case it would help anyone else.

Honestly this card is only a shadow of what it was. It's become more of a "niche" card, for restaurants and cellphone bills, so I wouldn't be too bummed about that. There are better options out there.
