What is considered new credit?

Postby HookEmHorns » Thu Mar 28, 2013 10:09 pm

I'm a 20 yo college student starting to build credit. I was approved in 12/12 for a Discover IT with a $1,000 limit.

When will this card no longer be considered a recent/new account on my credit reports?

AMEX PRG~1/14--backdated to 2012
AMEX BCE~6/13--backdated to 2012
Chase Freedom~5/13
Discover IT ~12/12

In your case your new discover it card would not be considered new/recent after 6/23/2013. Some may consider it new for a year so YMMV. I've always put at least 6 months between credit apps and have never been rejected for having recent/new credit.

Rule of thumb is usually 6 months from the date opened/activated.
