Joint Citibank Card Help my Credit?

Postby Essential » Thu Mar 28, 2013 8:24 pm

Hey everyone.

My dad saw an offer that Citibank had, which gave $100 if you spent $500, if you opened a new credit card there. I'm a college student without loans (and no credit report basically besides being denied for applying for a Chase card). I wanted to open a joint account with him since my dad was going to take advantage of their offer anyways. Is this possible as stated above, and will it help my credit score (considering my dad stays in good standing, which is has been since forever)?

Edit: Using google, I believe the card is a Citi Dividend (Platinum Select, if it matters). He's going to apply Monday with me.

Yes, but it's not a great rewards card.

My dad is only planning to use it for the $100 offer and then I'll make him spend a dollar or so every 3 months to keep the card going and my credit up.

Do my dad and I just ask for a joint application? and if so, he still gets the bonus regardless of the joint application?
