Can I call the credit bureaus to update my info?

Postby JSS3 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:20 am

I may be just a tad bit anxious so seeking advice. I'm new to building my credit and really want to see my accounts appear on CreditKarma. So far I have one account (Fingerhut) showing on there.

To refresh...I have 3 accounts in total, but since I just received the last card, I don't expect it to update until next month. However, Fingerhut first reported on CreditKarma on Feb 23rd. It's now March 27th. The month is almost over and no update. I see they cut a statement because it's online(as well as the statement being mailed to me). In fact, the statement was cut and available on 3/15/13. The threads I've read said it doesn't take that much longer for the CLI to show up. That, plus the fact that last month it showed up on the 23rd, has me a bit anxious. My limit has increased to $500 so can't wait to see that new number reported.

Onto my 1st Capital One card now, as shown in my sig, I received that on/about Feb 29th. A statement has also been cut for that and I received an email stating this(dated 3/9/13). I see my balance and all. Why hasn't that reported when it's the end of the month?

Do I call and ask or are they on top of these things to where they always come through monthly(even if late within that month)?

I'm checking back regularly and trying to give it time, but I feel I'm running out of time. I am building up credit, so these reports are crucial to me getting better cards. Showing more accounts with better CLIs is also crucial.

Should I call both these companies? I'm questioning if it's impatience on my part or just diligence.

If that will be the case for me then they won't be reporting for the month of March. It's practically over.

The title of this thread was changed from it's original. I'm assuming by a Mod. That's ok and all but I am wondering about it's phrasing. To my understanding, the card holder cannot pass on this info to the bureaus for them to update. It would have to come from the credit card companies, themselves. The current title makes it seem as if it's a possibility.

+1 to JSS3. You can't ask the bureaus to update your info. You can ask the credit issuer to do so, but they do not have to.
