Do credit card issuers offer upgrades anymore?

Postby s.jessica » Fri Mar 08, 2013 4:09 pm

Do any banks ever offer you upgraded products these days or do they make you pull the trigger on a PC? I was just remembering back when my dad got a credit card, they issued him a 500CL card with almost no history and little income, then they auto CLIed him every few months up to 24K. They first issued him this ugly pink card then after a couple years send him a letter that he was now eligible to move up to their Platinum card then he got a letter, "congratulations, you are one of the select few to be upgraded to a gold card".

Granted, gold has lost is lustier these days and the colour don't mean jack without any rewards but I was just wondering if anyone got anything like, congratulations, you are now eligible to PC to our premium rewards card or do most banks now just keep you in the product you start with until you try to PC yourself? I know they make you request the CLI yourself now, but like if you are started with a Platinum card, is is possible to move up to a points card without opening a new account? or does it just depend on the bank?

I haven't had an unsolicited upgrade on a card in a long time. I think applying for what you want is better since you can take advantage of the signup bonuses.
