0% Utilization or Low Utilization better?

Postby moxie » Sat Feb 23, 2013 12:49 pm

I am specifically wanting to maximize my chances to get my 3xCLI on my new Amex BCE, but I am also wondering about this in general for other credit cards.

Is it better to pay off everything before the statement posts so that it shows 0% utilization, or better to leave a little balance (like <10% utilization) and then pay in full after the statement posts? Thanks!

For your score, it's better to leave a small amount, like < 10% as you mentioned or even I've read ideally 1-4%, on the statement that posts. FICO likes to see "usage" and that's how it sees that usage for the optimal score.
