What would you recommend?

Postby swipe_masta » Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:25 am

Had my eye on the Forward, but since it's been discontinued *sigh* I'm in the market for a new card. Any suggestions?

I really was looking forward to the 5pts for amazon and restaurant purch if anything comes close to matching that...

What I have in my arsenal:
BOA Student Platinum (my 1st card; only keep it open)
Capital One Venture
Amex Blue Cash
Target REDcard
GECRB retail visa card

I was looking into the Thank You Premier card- your opinions?

Much appresh!

Since you asked for opinions, I'd much rather have Discover or Chase than Citi. In all fairness the feeling is mutual as they wouldn't touch me with a billion mile pole.

Anyway not sure what they offer that's even worthwhile, I never hear anything good about them.

I'd get the Discover It card for online shopping and Chase Freedom for Restaurants in Q2.

And just my opinion, but without any bonus the Citi Thank You cards are terrible...

Well are you looking for points, cash back, miles, double in certain catagories? It really all depends on your personal spending habits, and what would benefit you the most.
AMEX Blue Cash: $23,500
CITI Doublecash (World Elite MC): $11,200
CAPONE Quicksilver (VISA Signature): $12,500
CHASE Freedom (VISA Signature): $20,000
USAA Rewards (World MC): $13,500
USAA Rewards (VISA): $18,500

That's why I'm looking for suggestions by people who already have a specific card that they would recommend. Like I said I'm just looking for something that could be a nice asset to me; I'm open to anything really. Just want something comparable to the benefits the Forward had... My spending habits are not too extravagant, but I do rack up quite a bill every so often (aside from the monthly bills and necessities). I pay all my cards off in FULL every month. No blemish on my credit history at all, never been turned down for a loan, etc. Basically a model citizen when it comes to credit, I think lol.

Chase Freedom and Discover It

Is that Blue Cash card the Everyday version? If so I highly recommend upgrading to BCP.
Blue Cash Preferred ($24K), Costco TrueEarnings ($8K), Better Balance Rewards ($6K), CashForward ($15K), Sallie Mae Rewards ($10K), Quicksilver ($17K), AARP Rewards ($15K), Freedom ($15K), Double Cash ($16.5K), It ($28.5K), Fidelity Investment Rewards ($18K), Cash+ ($11K)

If you're looking for an overall good card with rewards flexibility then I would go with Chase Freedom. Chase has a great rewards program, even if you want cash back, you can redeem them for cash.
AMEX Blue Cash: $23,500
CITI Doublecash (World Elite MC): $11,200
CAPONE Quicksilver (VISA Signature): $12,500
CHASE Freedom (VISA Signature): $20,000
USAA Rewards (World MC): $13,500
USAA Rewards (VISA): $18,500

The Freedom and BCE are good cards too if you are interested in Cash back. I have a Citi Forward card (student card) and the rewards are decent, but aren't exactly anything to be excited about either.
Bank Of America: BankAmeriCard Cash Rewards-4.2k
Citi: Forward-4.5k American Airlines Advantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard 9/6/15-4K
Discover: More-7k
Amex BCE.2k- Amex SPG-5k
Chase: Freedom-5kSouthwest Rapid Rewards Plus- 3.6k
Capital one: Venture one-10,000, Visa Signature.

Yes my BC is the Everyday one. I really like Amex but unfortunately, not many smaller businesses take them (I prefer to shop mom&pop stores; support the community and stuff). I use it for gas mostly and I don't think upgrading and paying the annual fee would be justified for me... My gf has a Discover More and I don't like how she has to keep opting in for the rotating categories for the 5%. I know they no longer have that and are pushing the It, but isn't it basically the same? I was never interested in the Freedom but did look into the Sapphire, tho I have my Venture so I guess it would be pointless... I dunno. Back in the day, it seemed like we had more choices lol.
