FIA reissue cards on credit reallocation?

Postby mookie » Fri Feb 01, 2013 4:15 pm

i have the fidelity amex and visa signature that are handled by fia. last friday, i called to have my credit line reallocated between cards. last sunday, i noticed that no transactions were showing up on my online account anymore for my amex. i called fia and they said that they had closed the account and reissued the card because of a "third party mass compromise".

i didn't really think much about it when i was on the phone, but then i realized that it happened on the same day that i had done the credit line reallocation. i called back to ask if it was because of the reallocation and the csr typed something and came back to tell me that no it was a mass compromise. i asked him to check my visa and he came back and said, yes that card was also reissued because of a third party mass compromise.

i'm not one to believe in coincidences like this. when i asked him "are you sure? it seems very coincidental that this all happened on the same day that i asked to move my credit around." he was quiet and came back and said "yes, in the system, it was visa who asked to have the card reissued."

what do you all think? i got my new cards they have new account numbers and all -- and work fine. but i think that csr didn't know what he was talking about. has anyone moved their credit line around with fia cards before? what was your experience?

Black helicopters, man! Get to the bunker!

In all seriousness, it's a coincidence. Be glad they are reissuing your cards instead of letting Russian hackers have their way with them.
