My Forward card was switched to Visa Signature

Postby chria01 » Mon Jan 14, 2013 5:57 pm

I just received my upgrade in the mail today. If anyone was wonder why it isn't listed on Citi's website (the student edition still is) and I know people were wondering about the notice of replacement cards being sent.

Forward card being upgraded to Visa Signature?

Postby hematino » Tue Jan 15, 2013 2:01 pm

Anyone else suddenly get a Visa Signature upgrade on their Citi Forward card? I never asked them about this, but yesterday I got a letter in the mail that said they were upgrading my Forward card to a Visa Signature and it outlined the benefits. All the usual signature benefits were there except they didn't mention the no preset spending limit thing where you can usually exceed your limit by a certain amount if need be. My credit limit is 6,000 and I've had the card since May 2012.

Got the card today and it looks almost identical to the old (I have the white Forward, not the original black design) except under the Visa logo, in black letters it says "Signature." Anyone else get this?

PS- Just looked on the Citi credit card website and the Forward is GONE! The college student version is still there but for some reason the regular card is no longer listed. Are they planning on getting rid of it??

Yes, this is the case, but my understanding is that the student is supposed to stay.

Can I keep my student forward once I graduate if the regular version of the card is canned? Could I get them potentially to upgrade my student version into a signature this march, when its 6 months old without losing the rewards structure? I'd love for my amazon purchases using the forward card to have the same extended warranty and theft/loss/damage insurance my amazon rewards visa signature offers.

Honestly its still not gonna get much love until June from me, cause theres 5% cash coming from restaurants until then from a combination of the Discover More, Freedom, and my local bank rewards card. Maybe even from the Cash+ (finally just got my card upgraded today). But its still kinda cool that Citi did that automatically after all this time when they had the Forward as ineligible for upgrade. It does suck for new customers that they're axeing the regular Forward card though, it was pretty much their most lucrative Thank You Point generating card.

I love my Forward Card...It's the perfect Everyday Rewards card for a Bachelor living in NYC. I'm glad we're locked in.

I pretty much couldn't careless about the Visa Signature part.

Not at all sure "we're locked in" They could easily change the reward structure or just discontinue the card.

This is amusing. I was thinking recently about applying for a visa signature card and, while looking through this thread, I realize I already had 99% of the perks they offer with my Escape by Discover card. I don't need those perks from a Visa when I already have them. For $60 a year. Plus points.
Cards and Credit lines Acquired:

Escape by Discover (7.75K), Barclay Holland America Visa (7K), Macy's store card (7K), Bloomingdale's store card (2.6K), Citi Custom Credit Line (3.5K), PayPal Smart Connect credit line (2.7K), Chase Freedom Visa (5K), Chase United MileagePlus Visa (5K), Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa (6K), Amazon store card (2.2K), Lord & Taylor store card (550), Nordstrom store card (1500), Gold Delta SkyMiles from American Express (3K), Discover It (6.5K), PayPal Credit Line (1K).

^It doesn't cost you anything extra to get the visa signature version, the bank just has to decide you're worthy of a high credit line. The rewards on some visa signature cards outclass those of the Discover Escape AND have no annual fee.
