Can I avoid a hard pull by providing my credit report?

Postby Twisted Innovator » Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:28 pm

Hello all,

When it comes time can I pull my own credit report and bring it in to apply for a credit card at Chase? Will Chase still do a hard pull of their own? Even if I'm giving them the same report? I don't want my credit score to drop, just because they are doing the same exact thing I did.

v/r,

You cannot do that unfortunately. They will not use a copy you provide, they will do a hard pull themselves.

You getting your own credit report does not affect your credit score as its not a hard pull.

Its funny you mention this because I did the same exact thing today. I went to look at a car and the d***head salesman pretty much didnt even want to deal with me until he ran my credit. So I told him to wait a minute while I went to my car. I came back with a copy of my credit report from Transunion that I got today. He still tried saying that he has to do "an auto credit report pull" wjatever the hell that means. I told him any info you need to see about me to talk business is on that report I literally just pulled an hour ago. Needless to say, he changed his attitude then.

I would have laughed at him and said ok, there are plenty of other dealerships and other salesmen who would love to make some money off of me today. Good bye. He'd be running out the door after you.
