Card Verification Phone Call: Does it matter which card you give to the CSR?

Postby Celestine » Mon Dec 10, 2012 5:52 pm

Out of curiosity... When asked about a card that you have been using on a card application verification phone call, does giving your "low-end" card instead of your "high-end" card affect your chances for approval?

I may be comparing apples to oranges but for example you you have both Household card and AmEx Plat card. You answered the CSR with the Household card instead of AmEx Plat card.

Would it affect your approval rate?

I don't know. I'm not sure it's completely cut and dried. Some companies might see it one way and other companies the opposite. For example, Chase might be impressed that you have an Amex Plat and see you as a good credit risk, while Discover might prefer you have the Household card as if they give you a card you would use that a lot vs if you had the Amex.

So, not sure there is a definitive answer to this.
