Should I become an authorized user on company credit card?

Postby cswnyc2012 » Sat Dec 08, 2012 4:20 pm

Hi Everyone,

I filed for Chapter 7 six months ago. Already in the process of rebuilding my credit. I currently have a Capital One card in my name... keeping the balance around 10% and on time with all payments.

I do travel quite a bit for expense checks usually range from $1000-1400 each month. All of which I pay with on my debit card. My boss is suggesting the company get me a credit card. Does this mean they put me one a an Authorized user? Will they allow/approve this?

Any feedback here is much appreciated.

Also, what are some other cards I should be applying for?

I believe you would not be an authorized user, but the account owner. You would have to apply just as you would any other card. Anything that is expense related for work will be paid on your behalf by the company instead of you paying with your debit card and waiting for an expense check from the company.

I'm not totally sure, but I believe you will have an increased chance of being accepted due to the business relationship your company has with the CC company.

Being only 6 months out of Chapter 7, you could apply for the company CC, but other than that I think you should stick with the Capital One and rebuild a "good" history before applying for many others.
