Individual applying for business card

Postby agp » Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:16 pm

I have do not own a business, but if I apply for a business card and use my SSN as the business ID, can I put whatever name I want as the business name, or do I have to use my real name?

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Use your name unless you have a sole proprietorship (dba).

Are you sure you don't have a business? Do you sell on eBay? Freelance? Write a blog?

I have sold things on eBay. Does that mean I can just take my last name and add "Consulting" after it and call that my business name? Is that legal?

Not exactly. Unless you register the business name with your secretary of state, you should just use your name.

If asked about your business, be honest. Tell them you've sold on eBay and that you want to grow it. Or, tell them you'd just starting a business and want to separate expenses. AGP Consulting doesn't sounds bad.
