Just to clarify for everyone about NJ gas laws, these are what they actually are:

  • You can pump your own gas and finish it up, but you can't START the process. The attendant has to do it for you (meaning choose the setting on the pump, put the nozzle in your tank, and get it started) Many times I've let them start and then pumped it myself.
  • The law does not apply to DIESEL. You can get out, start it, and pump it all yourself. I do this quite often (mainly because I really don't care what the law says and I'm impatient)

Active Cards:

Chase Sapphire Preferred ($10k Limit - 2/2013)
Chase Ink Plus ($7k Limit - 2/2013)
Discover IT ($9.5k Limit - 10/2012)
AMEX Zync (No Pre-set Limit - 1/2010)
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday ($20k Limit - 1/2013 - Backdate to 1/2010)

I tend to pay with credit 95% of the time, because I know how much I'm willing to spend and then that's it for the week, I make it last for a week and fill up, pay the bill off at the end of the month, and restart the process.

In my area all of the stations are 10 cents a gallon more. over the 9 month periods I use either my citgo charge card either in Mahwah or Ramsey, I also rotate it with my Exxon/Mobil charge card not the mastercard credit card, there are quite a few gas stations on route 17 north and the south side.
for the third quarter when we get our 5% cash back I then use my Discover card for 3 months or up to the cap.

does anybody here go to costco if so do you use your American express card, your debit card or do you pay cash get a gift card and use your gift card at the pumps?

I don't but the gf does, but I thought Costco only did AmEx for credit (or only in store)? She has a AmEx True Earnings card so that's what always gets used at Costco/Costco Gas.

to answer your question you can go into the store purchase a gift card and use the gift card at the pump. both the gas pumps and in store purchases take American express for credit only. but you can use cash for a gift card if you wanted to.
