W still have the old impression machines at work here at Disney Parks. We only use them if the credit card processing system or network is down. Only seen it twice in my 9 years here. So there still is a need for the old technology. The only downfall now is that some cards like the Chase Sapphire don't have raised text and per Visa and MasterCard, they cannot be accepted if not using a swipe.

Ahhhhhh the memories! Some of those things mentioned are difficult but there are always exceptions to the rule and sometimes, things are much easier in the past.

I remember when all my ATM card did was take money out of the cash machine. I never had to worry about my magnetic strip being stolen or my bank account emptied without my knowledge. Debit cards did not include a VISA logo and you could not use a debit card at a car rental or hotel.

Gosh - I don't remember most of those! What I do remember is the point about paying by check at the doctor's office. My mom always made a point about that. I also remember my mom being so excited when she got a Discover card and it gave her 1% cash back on everything. She was so excited and talked about it for weeks.

I also remember paying for gas inside all the time. Cash, credit, whatever. I remember being really excited when the pumps took cards.

My dad bought gas at the pump back in the eary 70's, I'm sure much longer than that, but that's as far back as I remember. When you pulled in you drove over this hose laying on the ground, heard this ding ding, the guy came out, filled your tank, checked your tires, washed your windows......most places would even check your oil, washer fluid, etc.

My dad handed his cash, check, credit card out the window, the guy went inside, 10 minutes later came back with your credit card/change/receipt and you was on your way!

If anyone was there the first day nobody would come out of the station to pump your gas, you would understand. My dad would tell you they had a perfectly good system, f'd it up then 30 years later the technology makes it seem not so painful. You still have to get out of the car and pump your own gas, wash your own windows, check your own oil and tires, then as the consolation prize you get to take your card out of your wallet and insert it in the pump! WTF is up with that? I want to drive up, wave my card and I have the robot arm put the hose in my tank! YIPPEE! technology put us back on par with the 70's!
