My dad bought gas at the pump back in the eary 70's, I'm sure much longer than that, but that's as far back as I remember. When you pulled in you drove over this hose laying on the ground, heard this ding ding, the guy came out, filled your tank, checked your tires, washed your windows......most places would even check your oil, washer fluid, etc.
My dad handed his cash, check, credit card out the window, the guy went inside, 10 minutes later came back with your credit card/change/receipt and you was on your way!
If anyone was there the first day nobody would come out of the station to pump your gas, you would understand. My dad would tell you they had a perfectly good system, f'd it up then 30 years later the technology makes it seem not so painful. You still have to get out of the car and pump your own gas, wash your own windows, check your own oil and tires, then as the consolation prize you get to take your card out of your wallet and insert it in the pump! WTF is up with that? I want to drive up, wave my card and I have the robot arm put the hose in my tank! YIPPEE! technology put us back on par with the 70's!
