How long to wait before re-applying for a credit card?

Postby plc44 » Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:39 am

I graduated from school in May, and began working on June 1st. I applied for the United Explorer Card immediately after graduating and got rejected because I had no credit history. I applied for a Discover card after that and that's what I'm currently using.

I'd really like to get the United Explorer card, but I'm not sure how long I should wait before reapplying for that card. I've paid off my balance in full at the end of every month with the Discover...what do you guys think?

well first of all do you travel on company business? your aware that you can only redem points and miles on this card so if you were to get this card and you wanted to tranfers your points to a sheraton, Marriott you can't do this you can only redem for untied flights .
no free rooms at any hotels. first let us know if you travel on business then we can worry about this card.

I too would love the Explorer card, but i fear my limited history would lessen my chances for approval. The next best thing is Chase Freedom. I live in a United hub city and fly that airline all the time. Chase is the only company where you can transfer points to mileage plus. With chase freedom it is a much easier card to get, which i did, when i build history with Chase they would surely approve me in the future with a longer credit history.

Yeah, I'm aware I would only be able to get UA miles, but based on how much i spend, right now the Explorer Card fits better than the Sapphire Preferred.

Getting the Chase Freedom Card is a good idea, not sure if should apply for the UA card again soon, or just get the Chase Freedom card now.

I'd give it at least six months.

I don't know if my scenario is exclusive, but i used for the BA cards returning in mid October, around the Eighteenth. I used for the SPG cards on Nov 1 and got accepted for both right away.
