Chase recon is awesome!

Postby andy1088 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 7:24 am

Applied for the Chase Amazon card (I'm sure some of you are cringing) to get the $30 gift card and to have an extra card to use once in a while. Sure enough I got denied due to "excessive inquiries" called recon and explained to the gentlemen my issue. He assured me that most of my inquiries were auto related and more than likely could push the card through asking what limit I wanted. I said I'd prefer $1,000 but $500 would work. A few minutes later boom approved for $1,000 and then what I did was take $300 off the limit and place it on my horrible Slate card limit (due to the 0% for 15 months) so now my Slate is $600 and Amazon is $700. This will also help with my utilization which I'm working on lowering.
My cards
Chase-Sapphire-$5,000 Freedom-$3,000, Amazon rewards-$700, Slate-$600
Citi- Diamond Preferred-$4,000, Thank you-$2,500
Discover IT-$2,500
Bank of America cash rewards-$2,000
Capital one newcomer rewards-$500

Congrats. I think the Amazon card is an excellent choice for people who use Amazon. It also offers 2% in some categories. Not as bad a card as some people say.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

I'm about to change my signature to reflect the fact that Discover failed to process my request for a product change from More to IT. They screwed up somehow and wanted to put me on hold a second time when I called while they figured it out. I told them to just handle it and hung up. Don't really care and don't have time to mess around with them. We'll see what happens.

Did they not send you a letter that told you when it would change? I would call again and see what's going on, and if your closing date is at least a couple days a way they should be able to do it so that it changes right when it does close. Also you can tell them to expedite the card to you. That is what I did, mines will change on the 23rd and I called 3 days ago to tell them I want my card as soon as possible and they told me that They would send it to me that Thursday and I should get it on the 24th, the 25th the latest
March 2011- Wellsfargo Cash Back College Card
May 2012- Chase Freedom
May 2012- Discover IT
August 2012- American Express Blue Cash Everyday

Thanks, 432. The ONLY reason I want the card is because it looks neat. It's not worth the trouble.

I called when I first heard about it and was told it wasn't available yet. A few days later after the launch date I called an initiated a PC to IT and was told it would process on my cycle date. That has come and gone and no letter, no card, nothing. I called again and the rep just fumbled for an answer/explanation. Since this isn't something I really want, I'm not going to work to get it.

Now if I had run into this kind of impasse when applying for the US Bank Cash+ Visa, I would have made every effort to work it out because that card has quite good rewards. Discover IT is not worth the effort.
