Is the free FICO score from Walmart credit card accurate & worth it?

Postby DeadSpider » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:59 pm

Thinking of getting my wife and I Walmart credit card just for the free TransUnion FICO score.

I like to get some input is it worth getting the card just for the score ? We don't need the credit card and both have 720+ score each, she does have Discover card about 2 years old.

If i do get the card will use it few times a year just to keep it active but not for anything big. $5 or less.
Cap! QuickSilver VISA 2005 $6500
Chase Freedom MC 2006 $5000
Amex Sky 1999 $2000
BCE 1999 $8800
NFL 2013 $1500
Discover IT 2013 $3500
FICO July 16/2012 ---- 742 Experian (Amex)
BK comes off ---- 9/2014

I don't see the point unless you're really itching to know your exact score. Creditkarma pegged my TU score within five points.

In your case I would recommend getting a 2% cash back card like Fidelity Amex (FIA) or Priceline Visa (Barclays).

I've been thinking about following the exact same strategy. The card seems worth it just for the free monthly FICO. I like credit karma too, but after all it is only a FAKO score. It does loosely correlate to the true score, but it seems to be a bit off as often as it comes out close.

I've got Credit Karma it says 710. I used to have credit card called Juniper closed it last year used to give me credit score not sure which.
I did take a look at Priceline Visa seems like that got two versions with and without AF.

I use my Amex BCP for just about everything with Freedom where Amex not accepted. So far looks to me I'm getting $50-70 a month in rewards using Amex not counting Freedom card.

I still would like a real FICO score but i kinda feel like getting a Walmart credit card is going backwards and i don't want to be stuck with anything lower than 5K limit. I seen people here talking about $300 limit on Walmart that will SUCK if i applied and got $300 limit.

You might get a decent CL with the Walmart card, it's run by GE Money Bank. Of course YMMV.

As for Priceline, there's only one card that I see, no AF, at https://www.pricelinevisa.com/

I got a somewhat low CL (<$5k) on that card but called them and they bumped it up. They were helpful and in Colorado Springs. They sounded like they might be kids from the local high school, but they did what I asked.

Juniper was sold to Barclays in 2004. I got my TU score when my card came.
