I probably wouldn't have recommended to start with Chase. Chase trifecta is nice. However for building credit lines, Chase is bad. Chase has a HP based CLI policy. However, I would recommend AMEX revolver for a couple of reasons. Because of AMEX backdating, your new AMEX revolver won't hurt your AAoA as much. Additionally, AMEX has one of most credit score friendly CLI policies. You can request SP based CLIs of up to 3X 61 days after opening first revolver and every 6 months after that. But I would wait till your new Chase reports before apping to AMEX.
Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum, Amex BCP 8k->24k (5/23/12), Amex TE 15k, Cap One 1.5% 15k->20k (8/7/13), CSP 25k, Chase Palladium 100k, Citibank AA 35k (AU), Firestone 1.8k->2.2k->2.4k (8/20/12), JFCU Jloc 30k, PenFed Plat Rewards 30k, SF Fire 30k, US Bank Cash+ 25k

Well, I don't plan on asking them for a CLI beyond $5k. They said the system is smart enough to review your credit and say yes or no without pulling the credit a 2nd time since I just got approved, and that's why I did it. I'll apply for the CSP down the line, and the simple reason is that I don't have $3k worth of stuff I need to buy to get the bonus, and I'm not going to buy stuff I don't need

Also, I don't plan to go crazy. I looked at the BCP or BCE cards because of the cash back on every day stuff, especially groceries. If I do apply, that'll probably be my last card for a year or more, and I'll probably wait till around Christmas.

Can Amex BCE/BCP points/cash back earned be mixed in with the points I earned off of my Gold Card? Or does it only give you cash back, and not point based rewards?

***EDIT: With AMEX Backdating, how far can I get them to back date it? Also, for my already existing Gold Card, will they back date that too?

Active Cards:
Chase Freedom 10+10 Visa Signature ($9k Limit - 8/2012)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($10k Limit - 2/2013)

Discover IT ($9.5k Limit - 10/2012)
AMEX Zync (No Pre-set Limit - 1/2010)
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday ($20k Limit - 1/2013 - Backdate to 1/2010)

BCE/BCP give cash back purely so no mixing with gold card points.

As for backdating, it isn't some magic thing where you get to add years to your credit file because you want it. That would ruin the integrity of credit system and be illegal. Basically AMEX will show future cards opened as the month you got the card and the year you first held an AMEX (member year). So for example, if you opened your AMEX gold this year and you apply for BCE/BCP in January 2013. It will show the BCE/BCP opened in January 2012.

Thanks for the info. I opened my Gold Card in Jan 2010, so I guess it'll back date to then. I'm probably going to apply in December at the earliest. If I don't do it then, I'll wait till some time next year.

Don't app in December. If you do and get card, it will read open in Dec 2010. While if you wait till Jan 2013, it will read open in Jan 2010. Basically get an extra 11 months of AAoA just for waiting a month. My Platinum card shows Nov. I keep wanting to cancel it and reopen in Jan to get the extra months but my member year is 1989 so it would just help a little. I got the plat before I understood amex backdating.

Thanks for that extra bit of info. I didn't realize it worked like that. That will help for sure. How strict are the requirements?

Just curious. Why do you suggest waiting until the Chase reports?

Congrats kcarter! I got the 35k bonus when they offered it. It was only open for like 12 hours and chase closed it immediately. Glad you still have two months to use for 5% gas and restaurants before the quarter is over. You definitely shouldnt get denied for the sapphire later on if you do app for it. You have longer and better credit history than i do haha. But that 3k spend is tough to meet. I just got lucky that i had a wedding to go and we charged all gift expenses on my card haha
Wells Fargo Student Credit Card Visa - $1300 (February 2011)
American Express Zync Charge Card (February 2012)
Chase Freedom Visa- $2000 5% rotating (April 2012)
Citi Forward Visa- $3000 - 5x at restaurants, amazon.com (April 2012)
Chase Sapphire Preferred Mastercard World Elite - $5000 (July 2012)

Credit cards left to attain
-Amex BCE/BCP

I have no doubt now that I could have gotten the CSP, but I honestly can't figure out how to spend $3k in 3 months, so I'm not gonna get it until I can spend that much on legitimate things. I don't want to spend it on random stuff I don't need just to get points, that's stupid.

Update: It looks like Chase has retarded computers and did 2 hard pulls within minutes of eachother on Experian. Figures. Oh well, I guess I'll apply for the BCP in January, and then just wait probably 1.5-2 years before I apply for anything else. I have what I need now, and 4 hard pulls in the last 2 years is too many in my book. One will go away in 2 months though, so that'll help.
