How Citi credit limit increases work

Postby jumbo » Sat Aug 04, 2012 9:14 pm

Just wondering, what is the policy of CITI in credit limit increase, is there any automatic CLI, or do we need to fill out the CLI form, and if so, do CITI usually do a Hard pull or Soft pull in our credit report.

I'd really appreciate if someone knowledgable, shed the light to the questions above.

You need to go online and request a CLI. It is a hard pull. Citibank stopped automatic credit line increases along with all the other major banks after the 2008 demise.

That isn't really true about the other banks because my wellsfargo got an automatic CLI a couple of months ago and my brother had his automatic CLI for his Chase freedom
March 2011- Wellsfargo Cash Back College Card
May 2012- Chase Freedom
May 2012- Discover IT
August 2012- American Express Blue Cash Everyday

Citibank CLI

Postby CC Deville » Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:32 am

I noticed earlier this week when I logged into my AT&T Universal Card (issued by Citibank) that there was a blurb that stated that I may be eligible for a credit line increase. So I clicked the link. It looked just like the normal CLI request except that it didn't ask me what CLI I wanted. I put in my income info, pressed continue and got a $2,250 increase for a total new credit line of $11,100. Funny thing is that I never use that card.

Now I check my email and I received an email (had not checked in a while) also stating that I may be eligible for an increase (this was sent before I requested it online).

"You may be eligible for a credit limit increase.

Dear CC Devlle,

It's our job to make sure your AT&T Universal Card is the right card for all of your plans. So we are pleased to inform you that you could be eligible for a credit limit increase.*

With a new credit limit, you'll have the support you need to do more without juggling different cards.

Simply visit creditlimitincrease.universalcard.com or call
1-888-830-6228 by October 5, 2012 to request your credit limit increase (please have your card or account number ready). You'll receive an immediate decision via our site or a live customer service agent.

We look forward to hearing from you."

Anybody else seeing this? I also have a Citibank Dividend World MasterCard and a Citibank Platinum Select Visa, neither of which are offering the credit line increase. A lot of creditors are doing this now, where in the past they would have done an auto CLI but due to CARD Act they need your income info. This was a soft inquiry only.

Congrats on the increase! Was yours like mine where they solicited you or did you just request one on your own?

Citibank does make CLI's very easy that is for sure.

I have tried to to mine 3 days ago for my diamond card, its say its pending, will recive mail in 10 days. Also says it took the score from a file that they have on there system. My credit is frozen, will it effect me from getting a CLI? Which one do they pull?

You initiated a CLI online or they solicited you? Usually Citibank CLI's are soft pulls from data they already have on file. Citibank, like other creditors recieve updated scores each month or each quarter and they base the CLI on that info. I believe they still recieve updated information reglardless of your bureau being frozen but I cannot confirm this.

How much did you request? If you requested a rather large increase, then yes, they are going to want to pull a bureau. And, obviously, if your bureau is frozen, they will either flat out decline the increase or they will request your PIN in order to pull the bureau. For me, out West, Citibank has always been an Experian and sometimes Equifax puller. It could be different out East.

Oh..yeah. That was a rather large request. Although, one would think that they would at least counter offer a lower amount.

You will have to let us know what the letter states.
