Need suggestions for New Card

Postby jumbo » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:36 pm

Looking for a card that has intro apr of 0% (I plan on carrying a balance for now. I know its a bad idea, but can't help). I don't really care about the rewards from the card.

My question is which card out there will I be most probably accepted for.
Any suggestion/help is greatly appreciated.

Little history:
I have the following credit cards:

- Bank of America - Student Platinum Plus Visa - Feb 2010 - (1K) - Balance $30
- Capital One Platinum MasterCard (1.75K) - Sept 2010 - Balance $10
- Discover More (2K) - Sept 2010 - Balance $1600
- Citi Platinum Select MC (1.2K) - Sept 2011 - Balance $1000
- Chase Slate (3K) - Oct 2011 - Balance $2700
- Banana Republic VISA (1.8K)- March 2012 - Balance 0
- Kohls store card (600)- March 2012 - Balance 0

Total average utilization 47%
I always pay Discover in full, so I'll soon pay off the $1600 balance of Discover.
Got first CC BofA on Feb 2010, no prior credit history before this, no car loans, no student loans

Oldest account age: 2.4 years
Average account age: 1.2 years

4 Hard Inquiries
- Most recent one is on March 2012 from GECRB for Banana Rep VISA & Kohls Card
- Chase from October 2011
- Citi from October 2011

Credit Score according to Discover Credit Tracker tool:
Experian - 711
Equifax - 702
TransUnion - 711

Any idea guys?

Most or should I say all credit cards are now offering 0% Apr some are offering it for 12 months, some are offering it for 15 months and
a couple of banks are offering 18 months. the only companys that are not offering any are stores, for example wal mart Discover isn't offering
and I believe Macys isn't offering it on there American express. I'm not 100% sure But I think citi has offers including the american airlines card. Jumbo do you travel on business?

have you looked into American expresses clear card looks like a very nice card to me it kinds of reminds me off the chase slate card.
being the fact that you have bank cards visa, mastercard and you have a Discover
I would like to recemond an American Express card, If I were you I would call to see if the Blue cash cards and clear card are having a
0% intro and see how many months there having the promo,

where you work does your place of business have a union card if so you should check that out?
so here is somethings to look at.

Thanks Money card for the reply.
No, I do not travel on business, I just fly only once/twice a year. I am a full time college student graduating soon. I work part time, independent, mostly build web applications/softwares and do some more computer stuffs around town. Right now, I earn around 24K a year doing my freelancing work. So, no question of union card from my place of work.

Amex clear cards would be great to have, what chances do you think I have, with by credit history and a few balances on some cards.

You should be fine. I don't see you defaulting on any previous cards so no worries. The only way to know for sure though is to apply.

And what do you guys think about Chase Freedom. The reward is good and its 0% for 15 month on purchases.
Is my change higher for Amex Blue or Chase Freedom.
(I already have Slate from chase - 3K limit, and at the moment the balance on it is around $2700 with 0% intro apr, got it in sept 2011)

since you don't travel on business forget about the American airlines card. basically there both regular credit cards, which ever has the lower interest is which I think would be easier for you to get. since you already have a chase card it might be easier for you to get the Freedom, but then again chase knows you have there slate card, you never know. it maybe the same.

And what you guys think about Citi Simplicity VISA... will apply for one of the card tomorrow.
So, final consideration,
Citi Simplicity
Chase Freedom or
Amex Blue

(based on the easiness to obtain the card)

Well after spending a lot of time gathering my courage, I finally applied for chase freedom, and got instant approval.
Its mentioned that I will get my card in 7/10 days, but there is no other info like Credit limit, apr.

So, according to your experience, should I call some back-door number and know about my credit limit and (try to make them increase if possible) or should I just wait for the card to arrive in my mail.
Thanks.

Wait for your card to get here and activate it first. When you do, they will tell you your CL/APR.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Yeah just wait. I don't think you should ask for an increase until at least 61 days have gone by, Most companies want to see some credit activity first before they issue an increase. Also note that most of the time a credit line increase, also requires another pull.
