Worst pre-selected credit card offer you have ever received?

Postby hematino » Tue Jul 24, 2012 1:22 pm

What is the worst pre-selected credit card offer you ever remember receiving?

Maybe a week or so after getting approved for the Blue Cash Preferred, I got an offer from (I think) First Premier Bank for this purple colored secured Mastercard. The normal interest rate was a disgusting 36.0%!!! Never even saw one that high or knew it was legal to charge! The ad boasted a maximum credit limit of $700, and I remember they assessed ridiculous fees for EVERYHING, and not just penalities. I was so shocked by the utter "badness" of this offer that I set it aside in my file cabinet for later, in case I needed a good laugh after a bad day at work or something.

Anyone else have a story of the worst offer they have ever seen? There are some pretty bad options out there, even for those with really low credit.

Citi Diamond Preferred from a few months ago. I think 22.99% APR or something very close to that not to mention the card itself offers no rewards whatsoever. I never carry balances on my card so APR does not matter to me, but come on...

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Mine was also a First Premier card. They decorated it up all nice with the black envelope, plain and simple "Platinum Visa" lettering across the back of the envelope, all exclusive looking and everything. Then I open it up and see the First PREMIER logo and I lol'd for a second and tossed it. Securely, of course.

Personally I'd feel pretty insulted if Credit One or First Premier contacted me as one of their demographic!

Oh no, I'm sorry it was Credit One, not First Premier that I got. Yeah it did sting a little bit to see my name anywhere near that type of credit card issuer. I made sure to tell my brother that if he got any offers like that to discard it immediately lol.

Diamond preferred is kind of vanilla, but at least its not a sub-subprime toxic piece of plastic.

Lol Ratfacedudeguy, opening the Credit One offer I bet you expected someone to pop out of the envelope and be like, "You just got punked!"

I wasn't so much insulted by the offer. Just thought that it was funny that they really thought I might apply after seeing good standing accounts with banks like Discover and Chase already on my credit report. I wasn't exactly running to get the scissors on this one.

I got the Citi Diamond Preferred when it had 18 months 0% purchase APR and 23 month 0% APR on balance transfers, so I got it as an emergency card.

The rewards however are incredibly vanilla. 10% gift cards through. 3rd party.
