Anyone getting Citi Forward pre-approvals in the mail recently?

For just about anything you want to get off your chest about credit cards.

Anyone getting Citi Forward pre-approvals in the mail recently?

Postby ckkiw8 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 2:06 pm

We want to apply for the Citi Forward in the next couple months and of all things we got two different Citi pre-approval letters in the mail the last two days- Citi Thank You Preferred and the Citi Simplicity. Should I expect a Citi Forward soon or just do the app online when ready?

I've gotten 4 different offers from Citi: a Diamond Preferred, a Thank you, a Simplicity, and then another Diamond Preferred after I had already taken the first offer. Nothing about a Forward card to be found. Unless the only thing that would convince you to take the Forward card is a signup bonus, I'd apply for it online so you lose less opportunities to earn 5 points per dollar on restaurants and bookstores.

I have never in my life received any offer from Citi. Every single time I've applied for one of their cards it was the "further review" message and it was declined for something trivial that they would not recon (one example was the fact that I did not carry a balance on a revolving line of credit - they actually said no because I didn't carry a balance which reported).

So, I haven't, and I would be shocked if I ever did, and this is just me, don't let this sway you at all from what you want, but I've gotten to the point I don't need or want their cards now.

To be honest I haven't really been too impressed by Citi's cards anyway. Their Thank You points have pretty dismal redemption value, especially for cash. Partner gift cards can be redeemed at straight 1% value whereas competitors such as Discover and Chase will often offer gift card redemptions at extra value per point. I can't stand not being able to view pending transactions in the online banking too. All foreign based CS is just icing on the cake that will sockdrawer my Citi cards after my signup bonus is administered.

This is the only one I ever get in the mail for any card. Ironic since I haven't flown AA since 2002.
