Yes, you can wait, or you can call after you get the 7-10 day message, as long as you get to the underwriting dept. with the analysts rather than the standard CSR number you will get to where you need to be. I think you would need to do it within 30 days with most companies. And yes you certainly can call for recon after you are denied. That's what both of us did. Some companies are better about recons than others - ones that aren't good are Citi and Amex (I tried and failed to recon with them in 2011), while companies that are good to recon with are Chase (as you've seen) and Barclays (I reconned with them in Jan of this year when they denied me).

You're correct on the "within 30 days" part. Otherwise you'd be required to submit a new application, thus negating the benefits of using the same report and inquiry for a recon.
