First credit card for 23 year old?

I want to help my 23 years old roommate to get his first credit card and need some advice on which card should he apply for.

He has NO CREDIT and never applied for anything before.

How about AMEX Zync and Walmart Discover ? app same day

Any advice is appreciated

He will most likely be denied for the Amex. He may be denied for Walmart. Try a local credit union for a first card. Or a mail-in offer from a mail bank.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

It would be nothing short of a miracle for Amex to approve that.

If he really wants a card as agp said a credit union, or secured card would be a good first bet to build history.

Bank of America might do a low CL card.
