App'd for Freedom

Postby MemberSince99 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 2:17 pm

Tuesday I pulled the trigger on apping for this. I was given the 14 to 30 day message (which as you know is 90% of the time a denial) and when I called the status line was told it was "in review".

I pressed the button to speak with someone and a dude came on and seemed pretty disinterested (This is very unlike Discover in my experience). He said there is nothing that can be done to speed up the process and they will let me know via mail when a decision is made.

Don't mean to read too much into that but the tone of voice was kind of like dude I'm hourly so I couldn't care less one way or the other.

Reason I'm posting is to first lay out the experience (will report back with the inevitable decline later) and more interestingly to those who want to get in with Chase, I am not blacklisted with them or from what I've read I would have already been declined. I burned them on not one but two cards about 10 years ago that were charged off.

So while YMMV, if enough time goes by it is possible to get back in it seems. Figured some might be interested in this.

Which number did you call? I've always used the backdoor number and I've always been able to have someone review my application and give me a decision while I was on the phone. The few times I spoke with them each rep was very courteous as well even though each of my apps were declined, so I would suggest you try that if you haven't already.

I called the app status line, 888-338-2586. I will give the backdoor number a ring tonight when I leave work and post back the results, thanks for the info.

Called the number, talked with an analyst who did ask about the COs, said the app had to go through a second level of review as a result. Mentioned it was initially declined for too many inquiries and new accounts.

Who knows, I'll let what happens happen and post back with results either way.

Hey, at least you got something. The analysts on that line tend to be much more pleasurable to talk to than the regular CSRs. Keep us posted!

She was very nice to talk with.

I don't REALLY care if I get this one. If I do apply for another card, and it won't be for at least 6 months in any case, it would be that new US Bank one with the terrrific rewards on it. Otherwise, I can't think of anything I really want to bother with that I don't have now.

So when they decline me, it won't really break my heart at all. I guess it was worth the pull just to know I'm not blacklisted, for future reference. But that US Bank card is the only thing even remotely interesting these days, and not sure I'd even want that right now.

Latest update: Called the recon line today. Apparently 2nd recon was declined, is what I gathered, talked with analyst, put on hold a couple of times, have to call the verification number on Monday for address.

I can only assume then based on that, that pending address verification it's an approval (or why would they bother verifying address). Anyone have any experience with this?

That seems very odd. I can tell you this much, they've put a lot more effort into your application than they ever did with any of mine. I never made it past a first recon. I was just given some pointers and was encouraged to apply again. Hopefully with all of my lines reporting a 0 balance I'll be able to bag a Sapphire next month or so but that's probably just wishful thinking.

I don't know much about Chase and how they do things these days to be honest, as it's been many years, so interesting to learn that is unusual.

You know the thing is, it's not like I NEED the card, I don't. The 4 I have seems like too much work already. I guess and this is probably nuts but I guess I app'd for this just because I wanted to get a Mastercard (which I currently do not have) and one with US CSRs (I've had more than enough of dealing with people I can't understand who tell me strange stories instead of answering my questions) with a "prime" bank, not really Chase in particular, though I was curious if I was blacklisted. In terms of needing this credit, not at all, so I probably did not apply for "good" reason, but then again if you NEED credit no one is going to give you any you know - they only want to give credit to people who don't NEED it. So part of it is just curiousity over whether I can actually get the card, a dumb reason, but how many reasons are actually smart to get this stuff? If we were smart, we'd never touch these things, that's what I've come to believe. I'm only half kidding when I say this stuff is of the devil, and if you aren't careful it'll drag you down screaming straight to hell.

Will post back my results on Monday for those curious. For those bored, you probably died of boredom long ago so my apologies!

LATEST UPDATE

Postby MemberSince99 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 8:45 am

I called the number the analyst gave me on Saturday this morning, and they asked for a previous address, and my date of birth, then it was submitted for approval, and came back approved for 2000.

So my question to you guys is, can you recon the limit when you get the card? Will it grow with time? It's my smallest limit card and not really high enough to be my heavy hitter honestly, at least not yet, but will it grow with time?
