denied, but already have credit score ??

Postby bgalakazam » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:01 pm

So I applied for a Discover Student card, but got denied. Interesting thing is I already have a score according to them. But I only had my CapitalOne card for 2 months. I keep paying it off and spent about $1700 so far and paid it off. (due to $500 limit I pay off several times a month).

So what happened? And why did it happen? It was supposed to be a basic card. Also, I only had 2 other pulls 2 months ago when I got denied for the other cards before I even had my CapitalOne and had no history.

Type of credit score FICO
Your credit score 658
Date 6/14/2012
Scores range from a low of 300 to a high of 850
Key factors that affected your credit score were as follows:
1) DEROGATORY PUBLIC RECORD OR COLLECTION FILED
2) TOO FEW ACCOUNTS PAID AS AGREED
3) LACK OF RECENT INSTALLMENT LOAN INFORMATION
4) ACCOUNT PAYMENT HISTORY IS TOO NEW TO RATE
5) NUMBER OF INQUIRIES ON CREDIT BUREAU

What is DEROGATORY PUBLIC RECORD OR COLLECTION FILED? 2 months ago I had an empty credit report and now this? I don't have anything on my name paying off (no car, no rent, no insurance, no phone bill, Paypal is clean). I might have been late on a web hosting payment, but that was cleared up with the hosting company long ago. Can I call Hostgator and dispute this? Or is this a done deal?

I am about to do that. Hostgator told me they reported no such thing.

EDIT:

The free report for online for TU isn't working at the moment for me...

OK so my Experian report is clear, and I have to mail in for EQ and TU.

Hostgator doesn't report late/non payments to anyone. They simply suspend your account after a few weeks of non pay goes by and that's that.

I say this with 100% certainty.

The only thing they care about is charge backs and fraud.

If your credit report is in the clear of no derogatory payments and such then I would call them up and get a reconsideration. If you do have inquiries of over 4, Discover will not approve you at all for any of their credit lines for that young of a credit report. Your scores are good but you want to keep up with payments with your current card for now. Also you must of applied for the card during the time your credit card was reporting a balance even though you paid it off. Your balance will not update to 0 right away depending on your bank. If your bank doesn't update your balance on your credit report after paying off your balance, this might be the reason why too.

1. Credit Inquires
2. Your Current Balance to Credit Limit Ratios
3. Credit Utilization rates

That denial letter is common to see even if you don't have any late payments. That letter was probably typed up in the pile of denial letters that were sending out to consumers due to late payments. Common error to see.

Overall call up for reconsideration and tell them that you are not applying for a lot of credit.
