Should I apply for a second secured credit card?

Postby sweetone » Thu May 31, 2012 5:47 pm

I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit, almost everything is cleared up, paying off one last delinquency thats on my report.

I have had a Capital One secured credit card for about 7-9 months now. My score has been going up, 30 days ago Experian's score went up and the other 2 went down a little...not sure why on that. I applied for a Verizon Wireless phone about 4-6 months ago and got approved with a deposit, just applied last week and got approved with no deposit on the account.

Would I get approved for a non-secured Citi card or any other non-secured card?...What are the chances on that? I currently don't own a home, car is paid for. Or should I get a 2nd secured credit card before trying to get a normal one?

Currently I'm at:
Experian 632
TransUnion 616
Equifax 603

IMO wait for a few more months and apply for an unsecured credit card. Bank or store card should help. If approved wait another 6 months and apply for another card. Check your credit score before each app. Your credit score should go up each year with 3 trade lines reported if properly managed.

+1 namvet. Btw where are you getting these scores as I would guess they aren't fico scores and therefore could be highly inaccurate.
