Does the credit card reconsideration line actually work?

Postby andy1088 » Sun May 06, 2012 12:59 pm

I've tried calling a few times for reconsideration, but it's never worked. Should I even bother trying with Bank of America?

It worked for me with Chase. There is a reason for those lines, so it doesn't hurt to try.

I just talked to BOA they got me a bank americard rewards card with a $2,000 credit line woo! 12 months 0% apr and $100 back if I spend $500 in the first 3 months! I am so happy I called! Do I have all the prime banks now besides Amex (Discover, Chase BOA and CIti)?

Tons of other prime banks but you got the big ones with exception of wells. No reason to keep applying right now. You need to garden a bit. IMHO your next credit goals should be to get Amex and start getting higher credit lines. Problem you have is your current card issuers don't give consistent cli without possible hard pull. Financial goal should be get better rewards cards.

Thanks Crashem. I'm happy with where I'm at now. I'm still thinking of cancelling the Capital One card because like I said earlier it's not growing with me. Citi just gave me a 1K increase, BOA is starting me at 2K, Chase tripled my line to 1.5K and Discover gave me a $500 increase to 1.5K as well. Outside of Capital One I have 3 excellent rewards cards and 1 non-rewards card that gives me 0% until Aug '13 which is beyond amazing. I am very happy with where I'm at considering a year ago I only used my chase debit and only had $800 in revolving credit and now with BOA on board I have $7,500 in revolving credit including 3 cards with 0% interest right now. I am an extremely happy person right now and I want to thank the board here for being so supportive!

When did you get newcomer and chase freedom? You have more than enough revolving credit trade lines. Out of curiosity, where do your scores stand (indicate if fico or fako). Hopefully being in garden will result in more CLIs. Personally I would be eyeing some optimized rewards cards for the future and getting amex early is good thing for AAoA management later on.

Also, consider Walmart store card for the free monthly access to TU08 score.

I got Cap 1 last year (Apr '11) and I actually just got the Freedom in March of '12. My score according to Credit karma is 730 my real Experian score according to Chase is 670.

What happened with AMEX that you didn't get one? Seems like you would be okay for charge card but AMEX is quirky.
