The reconsideration line worked for me on the Chase Freedom. They asked why I had more than 6 inquiries in 2012, i explained that I bought a car in January and the dealership submited applications with several financial institutions to offer me the lowest interest rate. I also pointed out that my utilization was low (under 7%) and that I was interested in the card for the rewards that were a lot better than Discover's... The lady put me on hold for 2 mins and came back to say I was approved.

I find it curious how the credit karma scores differs so much from your Fico score, I currently have a 657 CK score, but I also checked TransUnion and Equifax and those are 696 and 699 respectively , but in cases like andy1088 it's the opposite, CK is higher than Fico...

I called PenFed last Thursday or Friday about my denied card. They said they would make a decision on the appeal Monday or Tuesday. We'll have to see what they say today.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

I never tried with Amex. I don't really have an interest in Amex for some reason. I don't know why I just never thought about applying. Now that I got the BOA card I think I'm gonna stop for at least a year. I have some good cards now and I'm happy with them.
My cards
Chase-Sapphire-$5,000 Freedom-$3,000, Amazon rewards-$700, Slate-$600
Citi- Diamond Preferred-$4,000, Thank you-$2,500
Discover IT-$2,500
Bank of America cash rewards-$2,000
Capital one newcomer rewards-$500

I really enourage getting an AMEX card early for future backdating. Even if you get it for a year and cancel it, just make sure to save the card for the future. AMEX backdating is very powerful.

It worked for me with Chase as well. Explained the reason I would like the Sapphire (travel rewards for work). He asked about a balance from BoA and I told him it was from a vacation I'm paying off soon. He came back two minutes later and said I was approved for $6K after being initially denied for too many inquiries.

Be prepared when you can and be extremely friendly, it always help me.
