How often is Credit Karma updated?

Postby hilow » Fri May 04, 2012 1:18 pm

I have recently been checking my data with Credit Karma and have generally been very impressed with them for a free service.

About one month ago I made substantial payments to pay off balances on bank-card credit accounts of several major types, and am wondering how long before they are likely to be reflected on my credit report/score on CK?

I am assuming it will take as much as 2 weeks for the payments to post on the processors, then some delay to report this to - who? I think TransUnion as the source for CK data - and then some time additional for Credit Karma to pick this up and display it (when I manually click their UPDATE button).

With these several steps what is the likely time before I will see the new data on CK? Around end of May?...

My experience has been that CK updates once a month, usually on or about the same day every month. Whenever my score has changed they've sent me an email.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

Credit Karma allows you to pull a refreshed credit report daily. You need to log in and use the update link next to the score. Not sure when it auto updates but once a month is a good guess.

But the original poster's question was a bit off. Credit cards typically report to the bureaus once a month on active cards. Credit cards can report at any time, but report typically when the statement is generated.
Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum, Amex BCP 8k->24k (5/23/12), Amex TE 15k, Cap One 1.5% 15k->20k (8/7/13), CSP 25k, Chase Palladium 100k, Citibank AA 35k (AU), Firestone 1.8k->2.2k->2.4k (8/20/12), JFCU Jloc 30k, PenFed Plat Rewards 30k, SF Fire 30k, US Bank Cash+ 25k

Auto-refresh is set to monthly.

The manual update from CK is pretty accurate, for me it updates 3-4 days after the closing date of my cycle in major cards like amex, discover and cap one... For store cards like amazon takes about 2 weeks after the closing date, but I guess is the creditor's fault...
Amex: Business Platinum (09/12) BCP $10,500 (03/13)
Visa: Capital One Journey $750 (04/11) Chase Freedom $1,800 (04/12)
MasterCard Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select $8,500 (05/13)
Discover: Discover It $2500 (07/11)
Store Cards: Amazon $3900 (12/11) Macy's $500 (04/11) Kohl's $500 (05/12) Victoria's Secret $750 (11/12)

Credit card companies report about every 30 days. It is not necessarily the same day as your closing date.
